Russia: a dirty car
While perhaps not strictly enforced, there is a law in Russia which states that a dirty car is illegal, and you can be fined up to 2,000 roubles (which is around $45 AUD).
Macedonia: being under the influence in the front seat
We are all certainly aware that drinking and driving is illegal and if you’re caught the penalties can be severe, but in Macedonia if you are visibly under the influence of alcohol you cannot sit in the front seats. This means both the driver AND passenger seats.
Sweden: headlights must be used rain, hail, or shine
Despite the fact that in the summertime in certain parts of the country the sun never sets, in Sweden you’re legally required to keep your headlights on 24 hours a day.
Costa Rica: having a drink behind the wheel
This one is not what you might think – while in Macedonia you aren’t allowed to even sit in the passenger seat while under the influence, in Costa Rica you can drink on any alcoholic beverage while driving (as long as you’re not drunk, of course). Be careful though, you can face jail if your blood-alcohol level is more than 0.75%.
Cyprus: eating or drinking anything behind the wheel
Grabbing a snack from the petrol station or even a burger through the drive-through to munch on through your journey isn’t an option in Cyprus. If caught, you can face a fine of €85 (around $120 AUD).
